“MATARIKI…”

Matariki is name for the Pleiades star cluster (M45) in Māori.

According to ancient Māori astronomy, it refers to the cluster of nine visible stars rather than seven.

Each star holds a distinct connection to both the physical and spiritual environment and can determine events of the coming year.

The heliacal rising of these stars in mid-winter signals the Māori New Year.
